Measure analyst and press influence on pipeline
The Influence report counts the form submissions that arrived from an analyst firm or a press outlet, separates the ones that found you there from the ones that came back through there, and names every source. It reads referrers that a generic UTM tool records as plain referral traffic. If you want channel figures under an attribution model instead, read See which channels produced the most leads.
Before you start
The report reads the medium stored on each form submission. MarqIQ writes that medium from the referring site, so a visit has to reach you as a click from the analyst or press site for it to count here.
- The tracking script installed and recording submissions — see Install the tracking script.
- At least one submission in the period you pick. The report reads the most recent 50,000 submissions inside that period.
A tagged link stops a visit counting here
A UTM on the landing URL outranks the referring site. An analyst link that carries its own `utm_medium` is stored under that medium, not under analyst, and never reaches this report. Ask the firm for an untagged link, or accept that those visits are counted elsewhere.
Open the report
Open Intelligence Studio in the left-hand menu.
Click Influence report in its hover menu.
It opens at the page headed Influence Report. From inside Intelligence Studio the same page is the Influence tab on the Studio tab row, and the Studio home page lists it under Prebuilt Analytics.
Pick a period in the list at the top right.
The four choices are Last 30 days, Last 90 days, Last 180 days and Last 12 months. The page opens on Last 90 days. Twelve months is the longest window — there is no custom range and no way to compare two periods side by side.
Click Refresh after a period of heavy form activity.
The figures are read when the page loads and when you change the period. Refresh reads them again.
What the whole page is measured on
Every figure comes from the most recent 50,000 form submissions inside the period you picked. Nothing is sampled below that number. On a workspace that records more than 50,000 submissions in the period, the oldest of them are outside every figure on the page, and nothing on screen says so — pick a shorter period there, so the cap is not reached.
Read the four figures at the top
| Card | The figure | Measured on |
|---|---|---|
| Influence-touched submissions | Submissions whose first touch or last touch was an analyst firm or a press outlet | Every submission read in the period — the line underneath prints that total as of N total |
| Share of all submissions | The same count as a percentage, to one decimal place | The same N |
| Discovered via influence | Submissions whose *first* touch was an analyst firm or a press outlet | The same N. This is the number to take into a renewal conversation: it counts people who found you there |
| Pipeline touched | The deal value attached to the people behind those submissions | Only the matched contacts that carry a deal amount — the line underneath prints X matched contacts · Y with deals |
A submission counts once in Influence-touched submissions however many of its two touches were influence. A submission counts in Discovered via influence only when the first touch was one.
Read *Pipeline touched* with its two counts
The card prints a dollar sign whatever currency your records are in, and it prints a money figure that rests on the Y with deals number, not on the matched-contact count and not on the submission count. Quote all three together, or the figure cannot be checked. Anything of $1,000 or more is shortened to one decimal place and a k — $41,802 reads $41.8k — so read the rows in your own records before you quote an exact total.
Why *Pipeline touched* reads nothing
The deal amount this card adds up is a value on the contact record in MarqIQ, and only one thing in MarqIQ fills it: an imported spreadsheet carrying an amount column. No CRM sync writes it.
So on a workspace whose records come from HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Zoho CRM, Microsoft Dynamics, Pardot, Marketo, Mailchimp, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Adobe Campaign or Adobe Journey Optimizer, Pipeline touched reads $0 and with deals reads 0, even where the matched-contact count is high. That is the card telling you it has no amounts, not telling you the coverage produced nothing.
- To get a money figure here, import the deal export as a spreadsheet under Data sources, with the amount column mapped and the email column filled.
- Without that, read Discovered via influence as the result and put a money figure against it from your CRM by hand.
- The match is exact, between the lower-cased address on the submission and the address stored on the imported row. A sheet row saved with capitals in the address does not match, and neither does somebody who filled your form with a personal address and sits in your records under a work address.
- Where one person exists in two sources, the largest single amount is taken for them once. Amounts are never added across systems for the same person.
- The join reads 5,000 distinct influence-touched email addresses, taken in the order the submissions were read — newest first. On a period holding more than 5,000 such people, the oldest of them are outside the money figure and inside every count on the page.
Read the channel split and the daily trend
The By channel card holds two rows at most: Analyst firms and Press & media. Each shows its count and its share of influence-touched submissions.
A submission whose first touch was an analyst firm and whose last touch was a press outlet counts in both rows. The two rows can therefore add to more than the Influence-touched submissions figure above them, and to more than 100%.
Daily trend draws one bar for each day that recorded at least one influence-touched submission, oldest first, bucketed in your workspace time zone. A day with none has no bar rather than a bar of zero, so the bars are not evenly spaced in time. Hover a bar to read its date and count.
Read the source leaderboard
Top influence sources names the firms and outlets themselves, biggest first, to a maximum of 25 rows. Anything past the twenty-fifth is in every figure above and in no row here.
| Column | What it counts |
|---|---|
| Source | The firm or outlet, as MarqIQ names it. A recognised site with no stored label reads (unknown) |
| Channel | Analyst firms or Press & media |
| First touch | Submissions that found you through this source |
| Last touch | Submissions that converted right after a visit from this source |
| Total | First touch plus Last touch — touches, not submissions |
Take care
A submission that arrived from one firm and came back through the same firm adds one to First touch and one to Last touch, so it adds two to Total. Adding the Total column down the table gives you touches, and it will exceed the Influence-touched submissions card. Use the card for a submission count and the columns for a comparison between firms.
What the report can and cannot see
MarqIQ recognises 233 sites: 122 analyst firms and 111 press outlets, held in the tracking script itself. The empty state on the page describes them as 230+.
- It sees a click from one of those sites, followed by a form fill on yours.
- It does not see a report PDF forwarded by a colleague, an analyst naming you on a briefing call, a paywalled article read and acted on a week later, or a mention in a print edition. Those arrive with no referrer and are recorded as direct.
- It does not see a visit from a site that is not on the list. A regional trade title or a niche analyst is a plain referral to MarqIQ.
- AI assistants are deliberately outside this report. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Claude are recorded under their own channel, and folding them in would move the headline figure on this page overnight. See whether AI assistants recommend you is where that question is answered.
Treat the figure as a floor
Every limit above removes influence that really happened. The number on this page is the part that left a click, so it is the smallest defensible claim rather than the whole effect. Say that when you put it in front of a renewal decision.
What this page does not offer
- No download, no share link and no scheduled send. Take the numbers off the screen.
- No comparison against the previous period. Change the period and note the figures yourself.
- No filter by channel, by source or by campaign.
- No route from a row into the people behind it. To see one of them end to end, take their email to the Buyer Journey tab — Follow a buyer's journey end to end covers it.
If it did not work
We couldn't load the Influence Report — check your connection and retry
Why: The page prints that line for every failed read, including a refusal for your plan. On Starter this report is not included, and the refusal reaches the page as the same connection message.
Fix: Check your plan on Your plan's limits, and what happens when you reach one. Where the plan is right, click Retry — a genuine network fault clears on the second attempt.
No influence-touched submissions in this period yet
Why: No submission in the period carries an analyst or press medium. Either no one arrived by that route, or the links they arrived on carried their own UTM parameters, which outrank the referring site.
Fix: Widen the period to Last 12 months first. Then check one known coverage link: if it carries a `utm_medium`, that traffic is recorded under that medium and will never appear here.
Pipeline touched reads $0 while matched contacts is a real number
Why: The matched people carry no deal amount in MarqIQ. That value is filled only by an imported spreadsheet, never by a CRM sync.
Fix: Import your deal export as a spreadsheet source with an email column and an amount column, then reload this page. Until then, quote Discovered via influence and attach a value from your CRM by hand.
A firm you know sent you traffic is missing from the table
Why: Three things do this: the site is not one of the 233 MarqIQ recognises, the visit carried UTM parameters, or the table is showing its top 25 and that firm is below the cut.
Fix: Count the rows first. At 25 rows the table is full and smaller sources are outside it. Otherwise check the link the firm published for UTM parameters.
The channel percentages add to more than 100
Why: A submission whose first touch was an analyst and whose last touch was a press outlet counts in both rows.
Fix: Read each row against Influence-touched submissions, not against the other row.
The figures moved after the tracking script was re-installed
Why: The report reads what was stored on each submission at the time it was recorded. Changing how visits are classified changes new submissions only.
Fix: Compare periods that both sit after the change. A period spanning the change mixes two sets of rules.
