See how long your deals take to close

Last updated 18 October 2026Available onBusinessEnterpriseNeedsHubSpotSalesforcePipedriveZoho CRMMicrosoft Dynamics 365PardotOne of these connected and synced, with won deals that carry a created date and a close date. Anyone in the workspace can ask once they have turned Ask on for their own login.

Ask works out your sales cycle from your won deals: the days from the day each deal was created in your tool to the day it closed. It gives the middle figure, the median, with the number of won deals it rests on. If you want to know who is winning the most, read See how each rep is doing.

Before you start

Ask is in beta

It is off for each login until that person turns it on under Account settings › Beta features. See Turn on a beta feature for your login.

Days to close is worked out, not read from a field

No tool keeps a field for it. MarqIQ works it out from two dates on each won deal: the created date in your tool and the close date. It never uses the day MarqIQ first synced the deal.

Ask how long your deals take

  1. Open Ask.

On Home, click the Ask box at the top right. On any other screen, press Cmd+K on a Mac or Ctrl+K elsewhere.

  2. Type how long deals take to close.

“Average sales cycle”, “How long do deals take to close?” and “Sales cycle by rep” all work. Name the tool if you have several connected — “in HubSpot”.

  3. Add a period if you want one.

“Sales cycle in 2025” or “sales cycle this year”. The period is the date each deal closed.

  4. Press Enter.

MarqIQ reads your question, runs one query over the deals it has synced and opens the answer.

What you can ask

AskWhat you get
“Average sales cycle”, “how long do deals take to close”, “median days to close”The median days from created to closed over your won deals: “Half of the 4 deals won in HubSpot closed within 11 days of being created: 5, 6, 16 and 16 days.”
“Sales cycle by rep”, “days to close by owner”, “sales cycle by deal type”The same figure for each rep or each type, with the won deals beside each.
“Sales cycle in 2025”, “sales cycle this year”The same figure over the deals won in that period.
“Which rep has the longest sales cycle”, “who closes deals fastest”Every rep’s figure. Ask names a longest or a shortest only when every rep has 5 won deals.

How the figure is worked out

  • “Average” is read as the median, the middle figure. One deal that took three years moves an average a long way and a median not at all.
  • Days are whole days, from 0 up to 2,000. A won deal with no created date, no close date, or dates outside that range is left out, and the answer says how many were left out and why.
  • With fewer than 5 won deals, Ask lists the days themselves beside the median, because the middle of a few deals says little on its own.
  • Only won deals have a sales cycle. A lost deal was never won, and an open deal has not closed.

Good to know

  • The period is the date each deal closed, never the date it was created. See Ask a question about your records, under Know which date the period is on.
  • The time between two stages, such as from MQL to SQL, is not held by any field, so it is not a sales cycle. Ask answers that with the Funnel.
  • Under every answer, Ask says how the days were worked out, because days to close is not a field you can open in your tool.

If it did not work

Ask says no deal was won in the period

Why: No won deal closed in that period. The answer says how many won deals your tool holds and when the most recent one closed: “No deal was won in HubSpot this year, so there is no sales cycle for it. HubSpot holds 4 won deals; the most recent closed on 31 May 2025.”

Fix: Ask over a longer period, or with none.

Ask says “A sales cycle is measured on won deals.”

Why: You asked for the sales cycle of lost or open deals. A sales cycle runs from created to won.

Fix: Ask “average sales cycle” for your won deals, or add a period.

Ask names no rep longest or shortest

Why: At least one rep has fewer than 5 won deals in the answer. The answer says how many reps are under that bar.

Fix: Ask over a longer period, or with none. Each rep’s figure still stands.

The answer leaves some won deals out

Why: Those deals have no created date or no close date in your tool, or their dates give a time below 0 or above 2,000 days. The answer counts each reason.

Fix: Fill the close date on your won deals in your tool and run a sync.
