Turn on a beta feature for your login

Last updated 8 October 2026Any signed-in person can turn a beta on for themselves. A beta that needs a plan feature stays off until your workspace is on that plan; the switch says which one.

A beta feature is something new you can try before everyone has it. It is off for every login until that person turns it on under Account settings › Beta features, and it is hidden — not greyed out — for everyone who has not. Turning one on is your choice and yours alone: it does not switch it on for your teammates.

Before you start

Note

Ask is in beta. Until you turn it on, your login has no Ask box on Home and no Ask button at the bottom right, and Cmd+K / Ctrl+K does not open Ask.

Plan required

Ask is part of the Business plan. On a plan without it the switch stays off and the row offers Try it free for 7 days beside a See plans link. The trial unlocks Ask for the whole workspace for 7 days, once; then each person turns the switch on for their own login.

Turn a beta on

  1. Open Account settings.

Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, or open /account.

  2. Find the Beta features card.

It sits under your profile on the left. Each row is one beta with a Beta tag, a sentence on what it does, and a switch.

  3. Turn the switch on.

The row reads “On — you have the Ask box on Home, the Ask button…”. The screen refreshes itself; the Ask box and the Ask button appear at once. The Ask button is a speech bubble with a question mark, beside help and chat.

  4. Try it.

Open Home and type a question in the Ask box, or press Cmd+K / Ctrl+K on any screen. Everything Ask shows carries a Beta tag while it is in beta.

Turn a beta off

  1. Open Account settings › Beta features and turn the switch off.

The surface is hidden again for your login. Nothing you kept is lost: a saved Ask stays under Saved reports and opens again the moment you turn the beta back on.

Per person, not per workspace

A beta switch belongs to the login that flipped it. Your teammates see the beta only after they turn it on for themselves — there is no workspace-wide switch and no admin step.

If it did not work

The switch is greyed out and shows See plans.

Why: The beta needs a plan feature your workspace is not on. Ask needs the Business plan.

Fix: Click Try it free for 7 days on the row — the page reloads with the switch usable — or a Workspace Admin upgrades under Account settings › Subscription. After the trial ends, the switch greys out again and a saved Ask opens as kept, not lost.

You turned Ask on but the box is not on Home.

Why: The screen has not refreshed since you flipped the switch.

Fix: Reload the page, or open Home again. If it is still missing, sign out and back in — the shell reads your switches when you sign in.

A saved Ask opens with “Ask is in beta and off for your login”.

Why: Ask is turned off for the login that opened it — a teammate kept it with Ask on.

Fix: Turn Ask on under Account settings › Beta features, then open the saved Ask again.
