Set up MarqIQ and get your first finding
This is the shortest path from an empty workspace to a finding you can act on: connect one tool, let it sync, read the Overview. Most of the time is spent waiting for the sync, and the screen tells you how long that will take. If your tool is already connected and you only want to read the result, go to Read your first analysis instead.
Before you start
You need sign-in details for one CRM or marketing tool, with enough rights to approve an integration. If you do not have those rights, send How connecting a tool works to whoever does.
Plan required
A new workspace starts on a 14-day trial with the Pro feature set, no card, and nothing that charges automatically. The trial connects two tools, one per category.
Tip
Connect the tool your pipeline lives in, not the one that is quickest to connect. Every analysis is about records, and the records that matter are your deals and contacts.
Confirm your email
You confirm your email before you can sign in for the first time. When you sign up, MarqIQ sends a link to the address you used, and the sign-up screen shows Check your inbox.
Open the email with the subject Confirm your email to start using MarqIQ.
If it is not in your inbox, look in spam.
Click Confirm my email in the email.
It opens a MarqIQ page. Opening the page does not confirm anything yet.
Click Confirm my email on that page.
MarqIQ signs you in and opens your workspace. You do not type your password again.
Note
The link works once and expires in 24 hours. If it has expired, or you have used it, the page says so and asks for your email so it can send a new link. A new link cancels the older ones, so use the newest email. People you invite to a workspace do not get this email: opening their invitation link confirms their address.
What you do not need yet
None of this blocks a first finding. Leave all of it until after you have read one.
- The tracking script. It changes what arrives from today onward, not what is already in your CRM.
- Field mapping and hidden form fields. Those write the source into your tool; the analyses only read.
- Template Studio, AI Answer Visibility and Intelligence Cloud. None of them is needed to find out what is wrong.
- A second tool. One is enough, and the first sync of one tool finishes sooner.
Connect one tool and let it sync
Click Connected Tools in the sidebar.
It sits under Capture & Instrument, and its first entry is Your connections. Both open the same page, which is headed Integrations and lists the tools your workspace has picked, grouped by category.
Click Connect on the card for your CRM.
If the card is not there, click Add more to reach Browse all tools, then pick your tool from the catalogue.
Fill in the connection details that page asks for.
Each tool asks for its own. Marketo asks for a Client ID, a Client Secret and a Munchkin ID. The page you are on lists every value it needs and where that value is created, and your tool’s own connection article lists the exact scopes to grant — see Connect HubSpot, Connect Salesforce or Connect Google Tag Manager.
- HubSpot — create a private app at app.hubspot.com/l/private-apps
- Pipedrive — your profile avatar, then Personal preferences, then the API tab: app.pipedrive.com/settings/api.
- Zoho CRM — register a Self Client at api-console.zoho.com.
- Microsoft Dynamics — register an app at portal.azure.com, and take the environment URL from admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com/environments.
- Adobe Campaign and Adobe Journey Optimizer — create a project at developer.adobe.com/console.
- Google Tag Manager — generate a token at developers.google.com/oauthplayground, and take the Account ID from tagmanager.google.com.
- Marketo — Admin, then Integration, then LaunchPoint for the Client ID and Client Secret; Admin, then Integration, then Munchkin for the Munchkin ID.
Click Connect Marketo — or whatever your tool’s button says — at the foot of the form.
The button carries the tool’s name: Connect HubSpot, Connect Marketo, Connect Salesforce. On a tool that is already connected it reads Update credentials, or Update token on HubSpot.
Leave the browser tab open while Syncing your records… runs.
Connecting starts the sync on its own. The first run creates this workspace’s own database, which takes under a minute, then pulls your records in chunks and shows a count and an estimate of the time left.
The line on screen ends with "keep this tab open". Closing the tab stops the run. The position is saved, so clicking Sync now again carries on from where it stopped rather than starting over.
Wait for Fully synced.
Before the first chunk lands, MarqIQ estimates from 85 records a second, so 50,000 records is roughly ten minutes. After the first chunk, the estimate on screen is recalculated from the rate you are actually getting, and that is the one to trust.
Note
Google Tag Manager, HTML Forms and WordPress & CMS are set-up guides for the tracking script, not sources of records. Connecting one of those gives the analyses nothing to read.
Read your first finding
Open Insights in the left-hand menu, then Analysis.
Every connected tool with records is a pill along the top; pick yours. The page opens on the tool holding your deals, or the one you chose last time.
Click Overview.
It is the first of the ten analyses. An analysis your tool cannot feed is shown muted and says why.
Read the sentence under In short.
It says how many of the analyses found something to act on, how many of those are doing harm right now, and which single analysis to start with.
Read the numbered list under Start here.
Each item is the first thing one analysis would have you do, most harmful first. Every item carries a label: Doing harm now, Costing you results or Worth a look. Nothing on this page changes anything in your tool.
Click the analysis named on the first item.
The finding opens with the count it found, the number of records it was measured on, example values, and a line telling you how to check it in your own tool.
Tip
Take the first item on the list, not the one you already suspected. The order is worked out from the harm each fault is doing to your records now.
Then decide what to do with it
A finding can end in one of three places. Read the finding and pick one.
- Fix it in MarqIQ. Open Tool Operations for that tool and propose a change set. You see every record before anything is written.
- Fix it at the source. Most source faults are a form, a workflow or an untagged ad link, and no amount of cleaning holds if the cause is still running.
- Leave it. A finding marked Worth a look can usually wait. Note in your own tracker that you decided to leave it, so it is not re-opened next month as if it were new.
What to set up next
Once you have read a finding, the rest is worth doing in this order.
| Next | Why it comes here |
|---|---|
| Install the tracking script | Stops new records arriving with no source. Nothing else fixes the cause. |
| Run the guided source tracking setup | Decides which fields in your tool MarqIQ writes first touch and last touch into, in three steps. |
| Add the hidden fields to your forms | Carries the source from the visit into your tool when somebody fills a form in. |
| Connect a second tool | Lets MarqIQ match the same person across two systems. |
If it did not work
The confirmation email has not arrived
Why: A mail filter is holding it, you typed the address wrongly, or the email could not be sent when you signed up. The sign-up screen tells you when it could not be sent.
Fix: Look in spam first. Then click Send it again on the Check your inbox screen. If you typed the address wrongly, click Sign up again with the right one. If you have left that screen, go to the sign-in page, enter your email and password, and click Send the link again under the message.
“This link has expired or was already used.”
Why: A confirmation link works once and lasts 24 hours. Asking for a new link also cancels the older ones, so an earlier email no longer works.
Fix: Type your email into the form on that page and click Send a new link. Then use the newest email.
Sign-in says “Confirm your email first”
Why: Your password was right, but you have not yet clicked the link in the confirmation email.
Fix: Open the email and confirm. If you cannot find it, click Send the link again under the message.
Analysis is not in your menu
Why: The nine analyses sit behind Build your own reports, which is on Pro, Business and Enterprise, and on the 14-day trial. A Starter workspace does not have them.
Fix: Open Integration Audit Report instead. It runs on every plan and covers field completeness, email sends, form submissions, landing pages, page visits, deal creation and automations for one connected tool. Click Print / Save PDF to keep a copy.
The Analysis page says Connect a tool to see its analysis
Why: No CRM or marketing tool is connected to this workspace, and none has records left over from one you disconnected. A tool that is connected but has not synced yet still appears here, with “0 people synced” beside it — so this message means nothing is connected, not that nothing has arrived.
Fix: Open Setup & diagnostics. It says what is connected, when each tool last synced, what failed, and what is standing in the way, with a link to the fix beside each one.
The sync stopped part way and shows a message in amber
Why: The tool refused a page of records, a token expired, or the tab was closed. The message on screen is the one the tool gave.
Fix: Click Sync now again. The position is saved, so it resumes rather than starting over. If it stops at the same point twice, read A connection stopped working or asks me to reconnect, or Run a sync now, or change how often it runs.
Every card on the Overview says Not enough to go on yet
Why: The analyses need records, and yours have not finished arriving. A few hundred contacts is not enough to judge a score or a funnel on.
Fix: Let the sync finish, then reload. The Analysis page shows a count of people synced beside each tool.
A card says Not set up yet rather than showing a finding
Why: That analysis applies to your tool, but the thing it reads has never been configured in the tool itself. A scoring analysis needs a score field somebody populates.
Fix: Open the card. It names the gap, tells you how to set it up in your tool step by step, and does not pretend the answer is zero.
Connecting is refused with “this workspace is on Starter”
Why: Four tools need Pro or above whatever your tool allowance says: Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Adobe Campaign and Adobe Journey Optimizer. The refusal names the tool and the plan it belongs to.
Fix: Upgrade to Pro, or start the 14-day trial, which carries the Pro feature set. Every other live tool connects on Starter.
MarqIQ will not let you connect a second tool
Why: Your plan includes a fixed number of tools besides Google Tag Manager, and one per category on Starter, Pro and the trial. The badge at the top of Integrations reads "2 / 2 tools · GTM free" when you are at the limit, and an amber Integration limit reached banner appears below it.
Fix: Disconnect one first, or upgrade. Disconnecting keeps the records already synced, so the analyses you have already read still work.
